About our Facilitator

Candy Angel-Diaz is a Mexican native who has spent the last 40 years residing in California. Deeply rooted in the traditions of Día de los Muertos and Ofrenda/Altar creation, she brings over four decades of experience in expressive art and ceremonial practices, all enriched by her Mexican heritage, academic research & teachings from Indigenous elders. She has cultivated a sacred practice that embraces diversity and inclusivity.

Identifying as a Chicana/Latinx Artivist and Altarista, she honors the memory of resistance through community sacred healing practices drawn from ancient traditions and ancestral connections. She is a dedicated advocate for social justice; through art healing and by empowering community organizing aimed at fostering equity and preserving cultural heritage. In her community work, she seeks to raise awareness and inspire transformation, enhancing sacred spaces and cultural programs that promote creativity, education, and social change.

Her guidance to participants in the art of Ofrenda/Altar making is a process that invites an internal and creative exploration of one’s connection to their lineage, the interplay of life and death, and the rich tapestry of memories. Participants in her workshops are encouraged to delve into artistic concepts, symbols, and metaphors, enriching their relationship with their creations in honor and remembrance.
