Collection Development

The goal of Collection Development is to provide access to resources that support the curriculum, study and research of the faculty and students.  Given the limits of our collections budget, the philosophy of our approach is to provide the content they need “just in time” rather than “just in case.” To fulfill this goal, Collection Development continually reviews the use of the collection and the changes in the curriculum to target the research areas appropriate to the study, teaching, and research on our campus. Distribution of the funds available is based on the usage of the collection (circulation and student enrollment). Collection Development also provides seed money for smaller disciplines and programs until the formula fully supports them. The Library has also initiated patron-driven selection of e-book titles to support access to broader range of content quickly, to support 24/7 access from anywhere, and to support alternative needs to accessing traditional content.
