Mark Stover, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Stover began serving as Dean of the CSUN University Library on July 1, 2011. Dean Stover has over 35 years of professional library experience, having served as a consultant, librarian, editor, instructor, and information technology professional. He holds graduate degrees in Library Science and Religious Studies, as well as a doctorate in Information Science.

Dean Stover is author of Leading the Wired Organization: The Information Professional's Guide to Managing Technological Change, and has written many articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, including stewardship in higher education, creativity and innovation in libraries, library leadership, and information ethics. He has been the editor of two scholarly journals and has served on the editorial boards of several other journals.

In 2007 Dean Stover was honored with the "Excellence in Librarianship" award by the American Psychological Association. He received San Diego State University Alumni Association's "Outstanding Faculty Contribution" Award in 2006. Dean Stover has an interest in the application of emerging technologies to the library experience, but also recognizes the importance of the library as a physical presence on campus. He is confident that the Library has an enduring value as a campus space for students to research, study, learn, and find inspiration. "I believe that libraries play a vital role in 21st century higher education. Students must become competent in finding and analyzing information if they are to be successful in transitioning to a highly competitive workforce."
