The Information Ecosystem (LIB290)

Lib 290, the Information Ecosystem: Becoming a Savvy UserWhat do Google, TikTok, and library databases all have in common? Information.

It is not news that we are living in an age of information (and misinformation). But how does information work, exactly?

Enroll in The Information Ecosystem (LIB290) this Spring 2026 semester. In this one-credit online course, students and librarians will work to gain a greater understanding of our roles and responsibilities in creating and consuming information, in navigating the changing dynamics of the world of information, and in the ethical use of information. Course assignments and activities will help you foster enhanced engagement with the core ideas about information and the variation in disciplinary scholarship. We will ask ourselves broad questions about why information is valuable, how it is constructed and commodified, and how it can be used to marginalize or privilege communities of knowledge and practice.

Who Can Take This Course?

All students are welcome. We especially encourage students early in their academic career to take full advantage while at CSUN. Since this is a one-unit course, this would be an easy addition to your schedule.
