The Dr. Bonita J. Campbell WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Scholarship

Lydia Kidanemariam

Making the journey from Ethiopia to Northridge back in 2017, Lidya will be graduating this May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. Lidya is an active member of the African Student Organization and of the National Society of Black Engineers, where she says she's "proud to be a part of an organization that impacts the Black community in a positive way." Lidya wishes to become the beacon of hope for her family and community back home.

Beatriz Acuna Ramirez

Beatriz is one step closer to a career in aerospace engineering, as she'll be completing her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering this May. Going against all the social norms and stereotypes she grew up with, Beatriz has successfully overcome many challenges to achieve her goal in a male-dominated field of study. As a child raised in Mexico, Beatriz dreamed of reaching the sky, and touching the stars. Her dream is soon to come true as a proud, resilient graduate of CSUN and woman in STEM.

Roxana Ortiz

Roxana Ortiz, a third-year junior majoring in Civil Engineering, is on track to graduate in the spring of 2022. While her professional goal is to become an established Civil Engineer, Roxana feels a social responsibility to be a role model and advocate for young girls and women. “I want to lead by example and encourage girls from a young age to pursue STEM related fields”.

Michelle Castaneda

Michelle Castaneda completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Technology in May of 2019. She looks forward to acquiring a job that facilitates the way humans interact with computers. She hopes to contribute to new technological developments that help alleviate or cure cancer patients in the near future, and is thankful to Dr. Bonita J. Campbell and CSUN WISE for helping her become one step closer towards her goals.

Ruby Antosh

Ruby is majoring in Kinesiology/Sports Studies, with a career goal of WNBA or NBA sports management. While working as a student assistant in Special Collections and Archives, the scholarship has been a blessing to Ruby to help her financial situation, and a step closer to becoming a first generation college student. Ruby shared, “The Oviatt has become a home to me and has a support system that has become my family.”

Lucila Broughton

Lucila is a Biology major, striving to become a certified nurse midwife/women’s health practitioner. Her interest in women’s health was ignited at a young age after witnessing the birth of her younger sisters. Lucila is a Community Outreach Prevention and Education health scholar at a local hospital, a member of the American Medical Student Association CSUN chapter, and she works with Chicanos for Community Medicine. She hopes to enter the Master’s Entry Level Program in Nursing at University of California, San Francisco.

Ninsina Yadkar

Ninsina is an Electrical Engineering major with an emphasis in Biomedical Engineering, working toward a career in Biotechnology. She is involved in the honors society of Eta Kappa Nu and Phi Theta Kappa and has been on the Dean’s List since 2014. Ninsina’s strong technical abilities are a valuable asset in the Reserve, Periodicals, & Microform department, as a Class III student assistant.
