The CSUN Oviatt Library is committed to providing accessibility to library materials, programs, and services to all of its users. All staff members working in public services areas of the Library will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests from users with disabilities. If your disability is invisible, please identify yourself as having a disability when seeking assistance.
The Oviatt Library houses over 1,000,000 items and includes material in a variety of formats: books, audio books, periodicals, closed-captioned videos and DVDs. Most Library materials are available for a two-week check-out period for undergraduates and a four week check out period for graduate students (this excludes periodicals and reference materials).
Librarians staff the Reference Desk during most of the hours that the Library is open. For lengthier consultations, students are welcome to make appointments with Subject Specialist librarians.

Access to Library Services
The Library has established four assistive technology study rooms featuring a wide range of sophisticated hardware and software designed to increase access to Library resources for students with disabilities. The rooms are located on the first floor of the west wing. CSUN students wishing to use one of the assistive technology rooms may obtain a key at the Guest Services desk located in the lobby. Students will be asked to present their card from the Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) office indicating that they have received appropriate training on the equipment, and a current valid CSUN ID.
Locating and Retrieving Materials
Library staff will make every effort to assist students with a disability in obtaining information from library databases or library resources that are inaccessible due to a disability.
If you need assistance retrieving books please ask for assistance at Guest Services (first floor, lobby area). The number of items retrieved per day may be limited due to staffing or workload considerations.
Photocopying and Scanning
If you need assistance using a photocopier or scanner, staff in the Library Technology Services office, located on the first floor, northeast corner of the Learning Commons, can provide assistance (regular, "per copy" fees apply for photocopies; scans can be emailed to you or downloaded). Additional information on photocopying and scanning may be obtained from the Library Technology Services office. CSUN students are also encouraged to use the equipment in the Assistive Technology Rooms.
You can renew circulating library-owned materials four ways:
- Visit Onesearch Catalog and Discovery system to log into your account and renew books online
- Email a renewal request using our online renewal form
- Renew items by phone by calling (818) 677-4745 (available 24 hours a day)
- Bring items to the Guest Services desk during regular library hours
Two-week loan items may only be renewed within 5 days of the due date. Once you have renewed an item the maximum number of times, you must return it. Overdue books and books on hold for other users cannot be renewed.
Staff CANNOT read from books or periodicals for patrons. Students should contact the Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) in advance of their needs for guidelines on research assistance.
Restrooms, Telephones, and Drinking Fountains
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available on all floors of the library.
Telephones for on campus calls (such as departmental offices) are located on the 2nd-4th floors.
The CSUN University Library features wheelchair accessible entry ramps located on both East and West of the building's main entrance. The main entrance also features a power-assisted door for building entry.
An elevator accessible to all floors is available (once inside the library) in the Library's East wing. An elevator located near Guest Services provides public access to the first-fourth floors only (no garden level access).
